Mission Statement
The Food Bank for Monterey County is the largest provider and most comprehensive source of emergency supplemental food in Monterey County. Our mission is “to lead community efforts in the awareness and elimination of hunger in Monterey County” and we accomplish this by providing over 15 million pounds annually through our three distribution programs. The Food Bank now serves an alarming one-fifth of Monterey County’s population, nearly half of them children. Our greatest accomplishment is our ability to continue to meet the rising need through maximizing limited resources and donations, expanding programs, and recruiting volunteers-over 500 per month-in order to derive the greatest benefit to those in need. 95 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to our food programs and one dollar can provide five dollars worth of food.
