About This Cause
The mission of the Parent Resource Center (PRC) is to build strong, healthy families by offering education and supportive services to prevent child abuse/neglect and empower and strengthen the families in our community. The agency is structured as a Family Resource Center (FRC) and provides a variety of parenting education classes and supportive services with a strong emphasizes on families with children zero to five years of age. The PRC has a combined history and experience of more than 30 years of in-home parenting support and education services. From 1979 to 1992 the agency was known as the “Home Visiting Project” of Stanislaus County Public Health’s Early Assessment Intervention Program (EAIP). When Public Health experienced budget cuts and the project was to be discontinued, community volunteers advocated to continue the mentoring project. These caring volunteers had a vision of providing support to families within the community who are at risk of abusing their children. In November 1992, a Board of Directors was formed and a site for the PRC was selected. The community donated start-up funds to renovate an old bank building located in west Modesto to be close to the population to be served. The PRC became an incorporated non-profit 501(c)3 organization on November 30, 1992, and has since served an integral partner in the prevention of child abuse and neglect in Stanislaus County. As of January 2003, the agency became a United Way of Stanislaus County Member Agency. This relationship is an important one as it serves to improve the quality of life for families in Stanislaus County.
