Mission Statement
Engedi Refuge is a restorative program for women who have survived sexual exploitation. We are dedicated to empowering women to take the steps necessary to live their dreams with dignity and hope through safe housing, case management, life-skills coaching, and counseling.
About This Cause
Engedi Refuge is a safe place for adult women to recover from the devastating effects of sexual exploitation. Engedi Refuge exists to bring hope and support to those struggling to overcome such things as poverty, addiction, depression, and complex trauma often associated with the life of prostitution or sex trafficking. Engedi Refuge uses a collaborative team approach that integrates a safe house with a learning center and allows us to effectively serve our resident's restorative process and be among the most comprehensive and successful recovery programs of its kind in the United States. Engedi Refuge's program is holistic in nature, and designed to give each resident the tools they need to heal physically and emotionally and to grow socially as they work towards sustainable independence and sobriety. Engedi Refuge provides an atmosphere of empowerment and dignity while training each resident in successful life skills. Engedi Refuge approaches restoration in three ways: A SAFE HOUSE where all the resident's physical needs are met in this comfortable and secure home which is managed by on-site staff who provide encouragement and training in personal responsibilities and care. A LEARNING CENTER at a separate location providing a three-phase program that includes classroom instruction and group activities addressing a variety of topics such as: addiction, co-dependent relationships, life-skills, trauma counseling, educational advancement, vocational training and spiritual renewal. AN EXPERIENCED TEAM that is trained to work with the unique and variant challenges that victims of sex-trafficking face. A former resident said, "I was terrified when I arrived. I had already been to seven other rehabs, so I was very skeptical the program would really work. What I didn't know was that Engedi was unlike any other program I had ever been in. Engedi has proven to be so much more than I could have ever imagined. What makes Engedi stand out among all other programs I have experienced is that it deals with the whole person; spiritual, emotional, mental, relational, and practical life skills. I had spent years numbing my pain, insecurities, and troubled past with drugs and alcohol, and relationships that always involved some kind of abuse. At Engedi I began to take an honest look at myself and exactly what it was that continued to hold me back. I slowly began to realize that I did not have the strength on my own and needed God."
