Mission Statement
At Three Butterflies our mission is three fold. Hope * Heal * Honor Hope: Our primary goal is to fund research directly related to the causes and prevention methods for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Through this research we march on with the hope for a world where all babies live to see their first birthday. Heal: Until this world exists, we strive to provide healing for other families affected by SIDS. Honor: Through these education, research and healing platforms, we honor Taylor Paige Cosmas and all babies who were and are taken from us too soon with no explanation.
About This Cause
Team Taylor Arcadia Family Fun Run, is a 5k run that occurs every year in April to raise money for SIDS research and prevention methods. The event has grown to over 1,100 people each year with over three dozen corporate sponsors. Along the race course we remember Taylor Paige Cosmas as well as other babies lost to SIDS. Families and friends affected by the loss of these babies use this day to reflect and raise money. 100% of the proceeds are used to help the efforts of Boston Children's Hospital and safe sleep initiatives in Arizona. In 2014, we donated $75,000, $100,000 in 2015, 2016 and 2017, $125,000 in 2018 and $175,000 in 2019 and were still able to raise $80k+ in 2020 to Boston Children's Hospital and Robert's Program research. The money raised goes directly to support an ambitious and far-reaching study on the genetics of sudden unexpected death in pediatrics. This will be one of the largest surveys of the genetic landscape of SUDP, and will allow investigators to expand research on whether Robert's Program's discoveries around serotonin and epilepsy-related brain findings can be linked to genetic variation and heritable patterns. Three Butterflies initiatives began in 2011 after the loss of Taylor Paige Cosmas. Operating under the name of Team Taylor, we've organized runs to benefit SIDS research and safety measures. The initial event raised $6,500 and we've since grown to over $220,000 in 2019. Funds raised have benefited the research efforts of First Candle, Robert's Program at Boston Children's Hospital and safe sleep initiatives throughout Arizona including with the Department of Child Safety and Phoenix Children's Hospital. In 2015, Three Butterflies also began assisting Phoenix Children's Hospital with the Cribs for Kids initiative where underprivileged families receive a safe sleep set after a training on safe sleep for their infants. Moneys provided enabled PCH to provide 85+ families with these safe sleep kits. In 2018, we added support for Arizona's Department of Child Safety providing baby boxes and sleep sacks for teen moms and families in need.
