Pretty Brainy Empowers Girls to Gain STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art + design, and math - so they are equipped to develop their abilities and genius to positively impact their communities and world.
About This Cause
Our work focuses on empowering under-served girls and young women through STEM. We are guided by the principle that all young people merit the respect of being recognized as thinkers, problem-solvers, leaders, and innovators who, given the opportunities and supports they each need, will contribute ideas that make life better for their communities and world. Pretty Brainy addresses a cluster of ongoing problems: STEM learning with a purpose, the lack of out-of-school opportunities, professional mentors, classroom equity, and professional skills to match STEM skills. Without these, girls’ opportunities in life are limited. And so is our talent base. We level the STEM playing field with programs through which girls ages 10 to 18 perform and think critically, computationally, collaboratively, and creatively. They learn engineering design thinking. They learn to code with a purpose. They are safe to ask questions, take risks, make mistakes, and fail forward. They innovate for real-world clients, including, most recently, the City of Fort Collins, CO. As a result, girls in Pretty Brainy are forming companies, teaching technology to younger students, winning full-ride scholarships to colleges of their choice, and using STEM to improve life for others. Girls who identify as Chicana, Latina, and Asian, as well as students with disabilities, make up 35 percent of Pretty Brainy participants. With Pretty Brainy, they become future-ready. And future-ready team members make a positive difference to your bottom line. Why have so many girls remained unprepared in science, technology, engineering and math? Just ask a girl. We did. And the outcome is Pretty Brainy.
