Mission Statement

The Mission of Native American Development Corporation is to provide technical and financial resources necessary for economic, business, and community development in Native communities located in our four-state service area which includes Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

About This Cause

The Native American Development Corporation (NADC) is dedicated to empowering Native American communities toward social and economic stability. Through economic development efforts, NADC has proudly supported a wide variety of projects that empower and develop agency within Native communities, including: Today, NADC's, Healthy Food Financing Initiative has created 14 distinctive community gardens across Montana. Each site has a unique artistic heritage, incorporating tradition and emphasizing the significance of strong relationships between generations, stories, beliefs, rituals, and customs that are passed from one generation to the next. Recently, NADC held the 10th Annual Economic Development and Procurement Conference which has traditionally provided a platform for the Native entrepreneurial spirit and a venue for the community to share pathways to a variety of economic development based solutions. This year featured the successes of Native-owned and run small businesses and provided the opportunity for conference-goers to attend technical trainings and discuss economic development strategies. At the conference, NADC also held a contemporary Native American fashion show that showcased two local fashion designers and other Native artists. NADC is also in the midst of planning its 4th Annual Holiday of Giving. This event was created in recognition that when Native Americans make the choice to leave their Tribal Lands to seek new opportunities in urban settings, they leave behind a deep interconnected community, and as a result, living in an urban area for many can feel very lonely and isolating. The mission of the Holiday of Giving is to foster an opportunity for community connections despite urbanization. When the Holiday of Giving as established in 2014, there were around 25 families served. In 2017, nearly 150 attendees were served. Such a gathering offers a common space to share stories, family meals, traditions and a place to forge relationships. Looking ahead, NADC will be leading the way for Urban Native health care by funding the creation of the Billings Urban Indian Health and Wellness Center (BUIHWC). Once in operation, BUIHWC will provide over 5,900 Urban Natives with access to culturally competent health care, support in registering for Medicaid, chemical dependency counseling, and tower garden nutrition classes. The goal of BUIHWC is to act as both a healthcare facility and a community center to touch upon all aspects of wellbeing. NADC's future goals also include increasing access to affordable housing for all Native Americans through HUD certification, financial literacy classes, and homebuyer counseling programs. Through each of the unique programs that NADC offers and supports, it focuses on being a high-quality, sustainable business consulting and financial entrepreneurship center for the Native American Community. NADC’s current clients have identified a feeling of cultural insensitivity among non-Native organizations, and for this reason, NADC is working to fill the service gap with pre-loan technical assistance, delivered through one-on-one counseling/workshops, including financial literacy, credit counseling, budgeting, financial planning, business mentorship, obtaining proper administrative documentation; to either apply for a loan or start a business in an urban setting. There are no fees for the courses and a pre and posttest are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the services. In addition to technical assistance classes, NADC provides the following programs: HHS Healthy Food Financing Initiative, Billings Urban Indian Health and Wellness Center, and NADC Northern Plains Small Business Transportation Resource Center (SBTRC).
