Mission Statement
The mission of the Bicycle Collective is to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The Collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community focusing on children, low to moderate income households, newly arrived refugees, people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, and individuals recovering from substance abuse.
About This Cause
Founded in April of 2002, by five enthusiastic bicycle advocates, the Bicycle Collective is a community resource to provide a path to personal and self-reliant transportation for any one in need. Since our inception, we have received more than 45,000 bicycles as donations and prevented them from ending up in the landfill. These bicycles are refurbished and upcycled, and put back on the road as a low-cost or free transportation medium for those most in need, as well as for anyone in want of an affordable alternative to driving a car.
