Mission Statement

The Chelly Foundation's primary work is in a remote southern province in Cambodia to improve the education and health of children of all ages. We also have sponsored an educational project in India, and conducted charitable outreach in other countries.

About This Cause

Since its founding in December 2015, The Chelly Foundation has been making a difference for children and villagers in the Chum Kiri district of Kampot Province in Cambodia, about three hours southwest of Phnom Penh. Our first projects involved passing out school supplies for 600 primary school children, and constructing a free-standing one room library as part of a local high school. As of 2024, we have given full and partial scholarships to 27 young people (including 24 young women) to obtain university degrees in Phnom Penh at a variety of institutions. Our largest project to date has been the construction of a new school building for primary school students in first through fifth grades. The Chelly School, with five classrooms, was dedicated in 2023, providing a new facility for up to 400 students. Additionally, we have been donating funds to: repair other area elementary schools; provide free English lessons, creative writing, and test preparation to primary and secondary school students; build playgrounds at local primary schools; and construct sanitation facilities (toilets), as students going to school mostly have no access to such facilities. We have given away bicycles and extra school uniforms to children who walk a great distance (up to 10 kilometers) to school. We have provided computers to local high schools, and offered free laptops to students who receive the highest marks on the national exam. We also provided village elders with a trip of a lifetime to Angkor Wat. We have also partnered with another charitable group (Aagaz) to expand an after-school program for primary school children in Jaipur, India, and for the organization to engage in outreach efforts in local schools. Very few NGOs are working in Kampot Province. We are a small 501(c)(3) organization, not an NGO, making a big difference in improving the lives of thousands of children. Your help is so very much appreciated in advancing all of our efforts. ps For the remarkable "back story" of how the Foundation came into being, see our website at www.thechellyfoundation.org.
