Mission Statement

Code/Art is a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of girls studying computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We strive to put young women, particularly young women from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good.

About This Cause

Code/Art is on a mission to increase the number of girls studying computer science through art-based coding projects. Since its founding in 2016, Code/Art has reached more than 10,000 girls – 85% from historically underrepresented groups, with 18% identifying as Black or African American and 67% identifying as Hispanic or Latina. Through our three program pillars - CodeHER, TeacHER and Creative Coding Competitions we reach girls through both in-school and after-school programs, as well as through Code/Art's annual coding competitions for girls and nonbinary youth in grades 3-12. In addition to teaching coding skills, our programs expose young women to career opportunities, teach leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and help to build a supportive community of girls, parents, teachers and community leaders. Ultimately, we envision a world where all girls have a positive early introduction to coding that leads to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive tech workforce.
