Mission Statement
BGCMLA is designed to increase programmatic offerings and serve a greater number of youth in the areas of Los Angeles most in need of its services. The mission of BGCMLA is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
About This Cause
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles was founded in December 2015 as a scalable and sustainable solution to reversing the opportunity crises facing some of the most vulnerable children in the neediest neighborhoods in LA. The new Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles is designed to increase programmatic offerings and serve a greater number of youth in areas of Los Angeles most in need of its services. Our charge is to set a new standard for quality in the field of youth development. This new organization increases efficiencies, reduces duplication of operations and facilities, and strengthens services to urban communities in need. This approach creates more consistent delivery of programs and achievement of outcomes for kids, thereby increasing the relevance of Boys & Girls Clubs in Metro Los Angeles communities and neighborhoods. A Board of Directors made up of ten experienced professionals and philanthropic leaders has assembled, representing a variety of industries and successful organizations and continues to grow. The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our mission is fulfilled by offering nationally recognized, research-based programs and activities in three core areas: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. We believe in empowering youth to explore a future with endless possibilities by offering creative programming, such as new approaches to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) created in collaboration with likeminded corporations. Our vision is to provide a world-class Club experience that assures that success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle. The individual Clubs that presently make up Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles have a deep history of impact in the neediest areas of Los Angeles County. This new collaboration of clubs and community partners that currently comprise Metro Los Angeles includes Challengers (South Los Angeles) - since 1968, Watts/Willowbrook - since 1968, Rio Hondo/Bell Gardens - since 1960 and Nickerson Gardens and Jordan Downs in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles. Discussions to join the Metro LA collaboration are in process with additional sites as well as with the Housing Authority to develop novel partnerships for more new locations.
