Mission Statement
The mission of COFA is to bring people in Africa to a Christ-centered life by providing impoverished people of Africa with the opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty. COFA seeks to achieve its mission by providing education, job creation, health programs, orphan care and housing. COFA's primary projects have been in the country of South Africa in the province of Mpumalanga. COFA has supported Bethel Preschool and St. Peter Christian College, a K-12 private Christian school, in Mhluzi, which is the formerly segregated residential neighborhood outside of Middelburg. In line with its mission of supporting education, health and employment, COFA helped construct a health clinic and space for small businesses within the St. Peter campus. Working with local and U.S. based organizations, COFA has been able to provide low cost eye care and health screening to the population of Mhluzi at its clinic. COFA is supporting improvements and expansion of both Bethel and St. Peter that will provide students with state-of-the-art science and computer facilities as well as an innovative agricultural school. COFA owns and operates an orphanage in Middelburg that has space for 18 children. It is currently in the process of improving and expanding the orphanage. Other planed COFA projects include assisting in the development of schools, housing and employment at other locations in South Africa and Uganda.
About This Cause
COFA provides financial support to programs in South Africa and Uganda that meet the goals of its mission to create the opportunity for the people of Africa to break the cycle of poverty. COFA’s activities are based on the following principles: • Self-sustainability: COFA promotes economically viable capital projects that can be sustained by the local population. • Empowerment: COFA provides resources that enable people to bring themselves out of poverty. • Professional partnerships: COFA partners with capable and trustworthy individuals and organizations in Africa that understand local challenges and opportunities and can use their expertise to successfully execute our projects. • Local involvement: COFA values the input of local people, who understand the needs of their community and will take the initiative to address those needs with the resources that COFA provides. We work with dedicated local leaders who can see our projects to completion and ensure their long-term success. • Cost control: COFA maximizes the impact of its financial contributions by carefully controlling cost and giving local communities a stake in our work with their own contributions of money, goods and services. • Synergy: COFA integrates its educational, health care, job creation and housing programs in a manner that they support each other. • Management rigor: COFA is a U.S. based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It works closely with African nonprofit organizations Christian Outreach for South Africa and Christian Outreach for Uganda. The three organizations have local executives and each relies upon highly qualified local law firms and accounting firms to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and transparent financial reporting.
