About This Cause
Dogwood Animal Rescue Project is a unique, non-profit organization located in Sonoma County, CA. This volunteer-led rescue was created by a group of animal advocates who are focused on the rescue and placement of animals into safe, nurturing homes. We currently have over 150 active, passionate, incredible volunteers. Along with rescuing and adopting about 1,000 animals each year, Dogwood is passionate about having spay and neuter programs available to animal owners, regardless of their circumstances. With the average cost of a spay/neuter exceeding $700, many pet owners can’t afford the surgery, and end up with unwanted litters, cats and dogs that wander, and that have behavioral issues. In an attempt to do the right thing, the pets owners give unaltered puppies and kittens to friends and family, and the cycle of breeding and pet overpopulation continues. Many times those animals end up in situations where the outcome isn’t good. At Dogwood, our goal is to significantly impact and reduce the number of unwanted litters through our affordable Spay and Neuter programs. We work with veterinarians all over California who offer discounted rates, and we work with the pet owner to make it affordable. We also partner with our local Humane Society to help fund a community vet clinic that serves low income and people living homeless with pets.
