Mission Statement
Girls Inc. of Los Angeles is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold. Our mission is to empower the girls throughout Los Angeles to tap into their strengths with pro-girl results-oriented programs, events and advocacy. Everything we do is focused on helping girls discover and pursue their passions to transcend stereotypes and systemic barriers, becoming leaders of today and tomorrow.
About This Cause
Girls Inc. works with schools to provide hands-on, minds-on, age appropriate, fun, academic and enrichment programming focused on the development of the whole girl. Through a combination of a supportive, pro-girl environment and mentoring relationships girls acquire the personal assets and life skills they need to lead healthy, educated and independent lives. Girls learn to value themselves, take risks, discover and develop their inherent strengths becoming role models in their community. We serve girls (including youth identifying as female), 5-13 years old, living in under-resourced LA neighborhoods, facing intersecting systemic inequities that limit the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. The girls we serve are 100% girls of color and attend schools that are classified as "High" or "Highest" needs on the Student Equity Needs Index, a holistic measure that goes beyond just free and reduced lunch rates to look at the environmental and other community factors that impact students' ability to learn and thrive.
