Our mission is to provide supportive spaces within our communities for LGBTQ+ people to learn, grow, belong, and thrive.
About This Cause
The Source LGBT+ Center is the first of it’s kind resource and community center for LGBT people in rural Tulare and Kings Counties. We are the ONLY organization doing this work in two counties. As of 2022, we are the largest LGBTQ Center between Los Angeles and Sacramento. 2023 marks our 7th year of operations. We continue to provide vital resources and support for our Transgender and Gender non-conforming populations; as well as outreach and education in partnership with Tulare County HHSA for HIV: PrEP/PEP. We are home to the first Crystal Meth Anonymous meeting in Tulare County, and offer referral services to other LGBT friendly 12 step groups and residential treatment centers. We have an active youth board comprised of the local GSA (gay-straight alliance) clubs. In May 2018 the youth board, with our facilitation, hosted the first of it’s kind “PRIDE Prom” for local teens. We also host local social events such as bike rides, game nights, book clubs, and mixers. 2023 will be our 5th Youth Leadership Academy which is providing mentorship and leadership opportunities to people ages 18 to 24. All of these are major victories in our rural and conservative area. Awards and Recognitions: In 2018 The Source was awarded "Nonprofit of the Year" by The Tulare Kings Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, "Outstanding Queer Nonprofit" at the Fresno Queer Out Awards, and our executive director was named "Community Leader of The Year" at the annual Wine, Women and Equality awards. In 2023, Co-Founder and Director of Development, Nick Vargas, was named "Business Person of the Year" by the Tulare Kings Hispanic Chamber. We believe these awards result from our hard work in creating effective and innovative programs.
