Mission Statement
Friends of GALA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of the Girls Academic Leadership Academy, Dr. Michelle King School for STEM (GALA), the first all-girls public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. No other all girls STEM focused public middle-high school exists. GALA provides a highly rigorous college preparatory STEM-focused education in an all-girls environment based on voluntary enrollment that fosters academic excellence, ethical leadership, and intellectual curiosity. By providing STEM skills to its highly diverse population, GALA is addressing the ongoing problem of a lack of women/individuals/women of color from underrepresented populations in the fields of science and technology. Therefore, driving more diversity in STEM. Friends of GALA’s initiative, Launch Her Future, aims to redress the balance for these young women by helping to fund, and/or operate supplemental programs to enrich the curriculum offered at the Girls Academic Leadership Academy, Dr. Michelle King School for STEM.
