About This Cause
Covenant House Illinois (CHI), an affiliate chapter of Covenant House International, provides basic needs and support services to youth experiencing homelessness throughout Chicago. Our mission is to provide youth (ages 18-24) experiencing homelessness with shelter and safety, trust and community, and a better tomorrow. We fulfill this mission through two core programs; our Residential Program and our Youth Development Center (YDC). Through these two programs we provide emergency shelter up to 120 days for homeless youth along with; food, laundry, showers, mental health, counseling, medical support and counseling, job training, life skills, financial literacy, workforce readiness, computer access, legal services, and clothing. A majority of the youth we serve come from under-served communities on the West and South sides of Chicago. Additionally, more than 60% of the youth we serve are African-American, more than 40% have mental health issues, 35% have been trafficked, and more than 20% identify as LGBTQ.
