Mission Statement
NEST Community Learning Center (NEST CLC) exists to provide Nutrition and Education delivered in a Safe environment that will Transform the outcome of at-risk suburban children. NEST CLC was founded in March 2016 with the mission to address academic and non-academic barriers that perpetuate the cycle of generational poverty in suburban communities. NEST CLC believes that although food, shelter and clothing are very important for at-risk kids, the only thing that will truly change the trajectory of the lives of kids in poverty is EDUCATION. Currently nationwide, almost 2 in every 5 children live at or below the poverty level. Since 2012, more of these children call the suburbs "home" than in our cities. In Ohio, the number of children living in low-income housing in the suburbs has doubled in the past few years.
About This Cause
Through its innovative mobile classrooms, NEST delivers year-round, award-winning academic and non-academic programs right to the front doors of suburban kids in poverty. We help when kids need it and where kids need it! NEST CLC currently has three programs: AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM - delivering accessible and free homework help, targeted tutoring, technology (internet access, computers and printer etc.), school supplies, a complete library, project materials and nutritious snacks and meals to at-risk students in their own "backyard" literally just steps away from their own front doors. EARLY LEARNERS' PROGRAM - offers free mobile early academic intervention in the mornings for the community's most vulnerable children, ages 3 -5, to aid in Kindergarten readiness. Children in poverty typically enter Kindergarten about two years behind their middle-class peers and, for a large percentage of them, never catch up their entire academic career. LUNCH, LEARN & PLAY program - during the summer months, NEST CLC continues to serve and support its mission of academic support for kids in poverty. Each weekday, a free lunch is provided along with "camp-like" activities, games, crafts, grade level skill retention activities, a reading program and weekly special events. NEST Community Learning Center has proven its model and become a trusted partner in the community. NEST is backed by ongoing research and cutting-edge educational and neurological trends. It is a data driven, trauma informed, targeted action plan that works with teachers, parents, schools and other stakeholders in the community.
