Mission Statement
Based in UC Berkeley, we are the largest student organized hackathon in the world! We organize Cal Hacks each year to inspire thousands of students to work on side projects and learn new skills in the tech field today. They gather for 36 hours in the beautiful California Memorial Stadium each fall to build projects like mind-controlled cars, text analysis apps, and so much more. We need your support to help us make this happen each year! Because we want students to come and have a fun learning experience, we provide food, water, snacks, t-shirts, swag bags, and so much more. We just wrapped up Cal Hacks 4.0 and look forward to an even better Cal Hacks 5.0 next fall!
About This Cause
We are a registered 501c3 dedicated to empowering students to pursue careers in the tech field by working on side projects, attending workshops, and meeting industry professionals. We provide everything they need for an entire weekend so they can focus on learning outside of the classroom. The Cal Hacks Foundation not only supports our flagship event each fall, but also supports some of our new initiatives. This year we started a CubStart program to help students get their feet wet with hacking and building projects from scratch. Sometimes a very intimidating process, we set up pre-hackathon workshops to help them get acquainted with some of the technologies as well as mentors who can help guide them along the way. We also started the Cal Hacks Fellowship program where we provide funding and mentorship from VCs for students who want to take their project to the next level and potentially create a product and bring it to the market. Last but not least, we launched our continuation projects judging category which encourages students to build on their past projects and ideas and to not simply abandon their projects once the hackathon is over. You can read about all of this at our website, www.calhacks.io and follow us on social media to hear more! We greatly appreciate your time and support in helping us create the next generation of leaders in technology.
