Mission Statement
City with Dwellings: A Community First Initiative City with Dwellings exists to create change and cultivate a community of care so that people can move with dignity from trauma and homelessness to healing and housing stability. We provide safe spaces, foster belonging, and connect people to next-step resources. We work to expand shared knowledge and understanding around the complex issues related to housing and homelessness.
About This Cause
City with Dwellings began in 2012 as an ecumenical collaborative response to a critical need for Winter Emergency Shelter for homeless individuals in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. Church and community leaders mobilized and engaged local congregations, community groups, and civic organizations to provide shelter and care for the community’s most vulnerable. In 2017, City with Dwellings became a 501(c)3 nonprofit and we maintain connections with these vulnerable individuals year-round through street outreach, case coordination, advocacy, and programming at the Community First Center.
