Mission Statement
Fix It Forward Ministries repairs cars for needy members of our community to help enable their ability to be independent and self sufficient. By providing free car repairs, we are able to keep their vehicles on the road and safe. We utilizes volunteer labor, discounted parts and charitable donations to cover the costs of repairs. Additionally, we take donated vehicles and repair them so they can be given to needy members in our community who do not have any vehicle or who's vehicle is beyond repair. We focus on working with referrals from local charitable organizations, such as the YWCA, Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, CCRI, Churches United for the Homeless, local churches, etc.
About This Cause
Transportation is almost mandatory in our region in order to have a job. The alternatives are either expensive or very limited. Bus routes do not cover many areas of town and do not operate late at night and Sundays. Without transportation, it is hard to get and maintain a job. Without a job, it is hard to be independent and self sufficient. Unfortunately, the cost of car repairs are often out of reach for many of the poorest in our community. We partner with local charities to identify those who are in need for car repair to enable them to achieve and maintain their independence. We work with local businesses to get discounted or donated parts to keep our costs as low as possible. And we work with local car enthusiasts who donate their time and skills to repair these cars. By carefully partnering with others, we are able to provide quality car repairs at a very low cost and with very low overhead. This allows us to make the biggest impact possible in our community. We also work on repairing donated cars. Not only can we take donated cars, repair them and then give them to a needy recipient (or sell them if they are not a practical vehicle), but we also take vehicles that were donated to other charities and repair them so the recipient starts with a solid, safe vehicle and is not immediately burdened with car repair costs. In the last 4.5 years we have fixed over 400 cars. Additionally in the last 2.5 years we have repaired and given away close to 200 cars. As we get more volunteers and more resources, we continue to grow our ability to assist our community with their vehicle repair needs.
