Mission Statement
To build a healing community for survivors of sex trafficking, prostitution, addiction, and abuse. We provide safe and supportive housing, access to healthcare services and counseling, and vocational training.
About This Cause
Magdalene House ATX is a nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas with a mission of assisting survivors of sex trafficking and prostitution in changing their story from one of abuse and victimization to one of empowerment, healing, and transformation. By providing stable long-term housing and intensive case management services, we intend to create a survivor-led community where women can take charge of their lives and futures. Magdalene House of Austin is already, and will continue, coordinating with local providers for services including health, education, employment, financial literacy, and life skills. MHA is a sister organization(similar to an affiliate) of Thistle Farms in Nashville, TN. Thistle Farms began as Magdalene House 20 years ago with the same mission; it is our model. This model is extremely successful; historically, over 86% of Thistle Farms program participants graduate and go on to live successful, self-sufficient lives outside the world of the commercial sex trade. As a part of this model, Thistle Farms has also developed a social enterprise business run by survivors that provides all program funding; they are now a self-sustaining program, bringing in over $2m annually. Thistle Farms provides technical assistance to sister organizations throughout the United States, including program modeling, data collection and analysis, and peer support groups.
