Mission Statement

Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy Charter School’s (BELA), an all-girls high school located in Bedford Stuyvesant, mission aims to empower each young woman to be the best version of herself and realize her full potential. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, service learning initiatives, and a commitment to cultivating a spirit of ownership, BELA students will attend and graduate from college.

About This Cause

At the foundation of BELA’s programming are the schools core values of Sisterhood, Scholarship, Strength, and Service. Sisterhood: BELA is an all-girls high school. BELA’s all-girls model is grounded in extensive research on the effectiveness of single sex education in high school. Scholarship and Supports: BELA is committed to providing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum so its girls persist in college and the careers of their choosing. To support this, BELA’s unique model combines best practice to motivate, inspire and meet the needs of all learners. At BELA, we have a social-emotional learning course sequence, Leadership Academy, which focuses on the five principles of resiliency adapted from the Center on Research for Girls at the Laurel School: relationships, mind and body, creativity, purpose and growth mindset.
