Mission Statement
Central Texas Pig Rescue is a non-profit organization that advocates, educates and rehabilitates on behalf of pigs in need. CTPR rescues pigs from abuse, abandonment, cruelty and neglect cases, as well as provides owner support, pig behavioral training, education tours, youth activities, and volunteer opportunities to the central Texas community and beyond.
About This Cause
We are Central Texas Pig Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization in Bastrop, Texas, about 40 minutes from Austin. Founded in 2016, we have established a foothold of animal compassion in a community known for the support of agriculture and glorification of barbecue culture. Currently, we are home to over 200 “last chance” pigs, saved from abandonment, neglect, slaughter, euthanasia, and animal testing. Through physical and emotional rehabilitation and a commitment to their wellbeing, we stop at nothing to give these under-served animals a chance at life and happiness. As one of the few pig-focused rescues, we receive an overwhelming number of rehoming requests, and have created a rehoming network that works to place owner-surrendered pigs directly into new homes. We provide resources and coaching to pig parents who need behavioral guidance for the pig in their family, or to help ease the transition to new homes. We hold multiple events in Austin each year to connect with our local community, inspire people to appreciate pigs, and support local plant-based small businesses. CTPR is volunteer owned-and-operated, and one of our greatest gifts has been to offer people the unique experience of meeting and befriending these prolific, yet rarely understood animals.
