Fund Love, a New York 501c3, helps people live longer, healthier lives, by eliminating health disparities and improving health outcomes.
About This Cause
Fund Love was founded in 2015 by Diane Owens Zaccagnino. Diane passed away that same year after a nearly 6-year battle with brain cancer. Over the course of her life, Diane had taken a consistent interest in helping those in need, particularly young children and those afflicted with illness. Before she died, Diane developed the blueprint for Fund Love, with a mission to spread love and help people live longer, healthier lives, including patients and families throughout the cancer community. Diane was a businesswoman, ‘dream-catcher’, artist, community volunteer, cancer warrior, and most of all, a sister to anyone in need. Today, Fund Love has two divisions, one focused on building healthy communities and another charged with developing healthy collaborations within and across like-minded community-based organizations. By way of example, Fund Love's Healthy Communities division provides service through its Family Caregiver Program and I AM MORE THAN CANCER. TheFamily Caregiver Programhelps family caregivers learn how to successfully navigate the heath system, and effectively manage the health of their loved ones. This program takes on special significance during times of crisis, and its first program on COVID- 19 helps ensure that those in the community are equipped with the knowledge they need to work through the resulting health, social, and economic issues. The I AM MORE THAN CANCER Campaign was envisioned by Diane Owens Zaccagnino, with the aim of “relegating” all cancers to chronic diseases, by supporting ground-breaking translational research and personalized medicine. The Campaign, through FL’s partnership with Columbia University, serves as the lead sponsor of the Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Velocity ride to end cancer. The Campaign also provides “seed capital” to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, to help develop new cancer therapies, and also funds advisory services for organizations interested in improving the patient experience. In addition, Fund Love's Health Communities division is developing its Home Health Services (HHS) offering, which will launch in January 2021 and provide members with a full spectrum of health services, delivered in the home and ranging from prevention and wellness to acute and chronic care. The HHS offering will be available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, and services will address each of the determinants of health with priority placed on eliminating health disparities. Fund Love is currently funded primarily by its affiliate, Lucania Partners, and through generous friends and family donations, all totaling $235,000 in 2019. To sustain its progress and enable expansion, Fund Love will need support from individuals and organizations with a passion for social impact and for the health and well-being of their neighbors.
