Mission Statement
To provide a world-class medical education that ignites a passion for learning, a desire to serve, and an unwavering commitment to improve the health and well-being of patients and communities.
About This Cause
The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) is committed to more than just educating doctors in biomedical science and clinical care. It is also a leader in instructing students about Health Systems Science which focusses on the non-medical factors that impact health and trains them to be advocates in their communities. What Makes KPSOM Unique: Innovative Integrated Curriculum: KPSOM blends cutting-edge technology with transformative teaching methods. In addition to Clinic and Biomedical Science, the curriculum integrates Health Systems Science to prepare our students to not only understand the intricacies of healthcare but to empower them to tackle disparities and improve outcomes on a systemic level. Integration with Kaiser Permanente: Students have access to a vast healthcare network for clinical training, research, and community engagement. Cutting-Edge Technology: The KPSOM Anatomy Resource Center (ARC) uses a cutting-edge approach with structures preserved by plastination, imaging, and virtual dissection. The KPSOM Simulation Center facilitates realistic patient interactions, and develops core skills with trained actors, manikins, and trainers. Together, along with other technical innovations at the school, KPSOM is redefining how future physicians learn, practice, and lead in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Community-Centered Approach: KPSOM emphasizes community medicine, with faculty and students engaging with local communities and fostering meaningful connections. Emphasis on Health Equity: KPSOM is deeply committed to advancing health equity. Through a curriculum that emphasizes community engagement and culturally responsive care, students are equipped to recognize and address disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. Our goal is to prepare physicians who are not only clinically excellent but also deeply attuned to the needs of all the communities they serve.
