About This Cause
City of Refuge Dalton is a non-profit 501(c)3, and we serve children, families, individuals, and senior adults in the North Georgia area. We provide a variety of services from Food Bank, Mobile Food Distribution, Clothing Closet, Women’s Support Group, Family Outreach, Senior Adult Outreach, Youth Services, Transitional Housing, Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Support, Community Wellness, and Vocation and Workforce Development. Our Outreach Services are a door of opportunity for people to enter CORD programs and to provide support services for both immediate crisis needs and long-term stabilization. The short-term strategy is to simply meet people where they are in life whether unemployed, disabled, victimized, hungry, or homeless.. In Outreach Services, we meet the immediate and support needs of people through our crisis intervention, special events and enrichment opportunities, food bank, mobile food distribution, clothing closet, needs assessment and referrals, transportation, hygienic supplies, or with volunteer services, and additionally, in the case of children and youth, educational enrichment and summer camps. As of Oct. 2020 , CORD has served 1,129 families and 310 women via outreach services provid- ing life skills, follow-up, and case management. During COVID-19, we were unable to continue clothing store services as in the past. Fortunately, CORD was able to reorganization this program service and continue to meet the needs 114 people. In 2019, CORD along with several community partners were able to provide Christmas and a special holiday meal for 350 adults and children. Case management is being provided for 99 seniors in our community and is continuing to grow. CORD is connecting weekly by providing food boxes and other support services. From January to April of 2020, we served 51 senior households, and from April to December 2020, we served over 1200 senior adult households. Within our transitional and shelter plus care housing, we provide a safe living space for families and individuals to regain stability in their lives. The graduation rate of the program and the continued ability of participants to maintain independent living after completion of the program is 87%, the highest graduation rate compared to housing programs in the northwest Georgia area. During COVID-19, CORD transitioned the Food Bank to a Mobile Food Distribution Service to meet the food insecurity needs of 7,760 individuals and 3,237 households. Approximately 257,932 lbs. of food has been distributed allowing CORD to provide 250,000 meals in 2020. In 2019, we served 63,000 meals. In 2021, we are on target to serve another 250,000 meals to food insecure children, families, individuals, and senior adults in our community. Case Management provides Needs Assessment, Administrative Documentation, Referrals, Support Services, and Program Services.. The CORD model and success is based on a holistic approach of mentoring, support, and services to meet not only the immediate needs but long-term needs to enable people to be independent and productive in life. The Needs Services include Needs Assessment and Referrals, Crisis Inervention, Transportation, Hygienic Supplies, and Event and Enrichment.
