Mission Statement
The mission of The Undies Project is to provide new underwear to men, women and children in need to improve their lives.
About This Cause
The need for new underwear was identified by Lucy Langley and Laura Delaflor as they realized that underwear is the most under-donated, and most needed, item of clothing for those who are homeless, living in shelters or who are on a low income. No one should be deprived of the simple, daily necessity of clean underwear that many of us take for granted. Hygiene and physical comfort are only a part of this basic human need. New, clean underwear also provides dignity and self esteem. For many underwear is a necessity, not a luxury. The Undies Project was set up in November 2015 to fulfill this large, year round, unmet need. The Undies Project is totally volunteer driven. In order to supply organizations with much needed underwear The Undies project holds collection drives during the year, takes part in Give Back Events, holds fundraisers and runs an end of year Annual Appeal. The first collection drive is Mardi "Bra" held to coincide with Mardi Gras. The drive is advertised in local communities, in the press and on social media to ask for donations of new bras. Donations can be made through The Undies Project's Amazon Wish List, with donations sent directly to them, or a monetary donation can be made. Both means are accessible on their website www.theundiesproject.org. Alternatively new bras can be mailed to The Undies Project. Undie Sundays are held by local area churches and houses of worship throughout the year to collect donations of men's, women's and children's underwear. Fundraisers include an online crowd funding fundraiser, usually in the Spring and Cocktails & Comedy, the main fundraiser of the year is held in the Fall, and an end of year Annual Appeal. 97% of annual monetary donations are used to purchase underwear from wholesalers to donate to The Undies Project's partner agencies who serve those who are either homeless, living in shelters or who are on a low income.
