Mission Statement

Street2Feet's mission is to promote equitable health opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness with a holistic approach to wellness in spirit, mind, and body.

About This Cause

Our vision is to remove the barriers to exercise and health by introducing walking and running as an accessible/sustainable habit that builds community and empowers participants to develop a healthy life, regardless of income, zip code, or socioeconomic status. Our values are: Dignity: We honor the inherent value of each person and their journey toward healing and growth. Health: We promote health in spirit, mind, and body and believe that wellness is not a luxury but a necessity for all. Resilience: We empower one another with consistency, accountability, humility, and encouragement so that each person can pursue their purpose and meaning in life. Community: We create an authentic, inclusive environment to foster healthy connections with each other, our neighbors, and our world. Joy: We celebrate all wins—big and small—because we recognize the fundamental role joy plays in holistic health. We meet with participants six days a week for one hour each day; three for running/walking. This training is accessible to all walkers, runners, and wheelchair-bound participants. Physical health benefits include improved diabetes, blood pressure, and overall body discomfort. The other three days we meet for yoga, spending a portion of the class on a variety of health-related topics, including nutrition, mindfulness, trauma-informed counseling, and healthy coping skills. Community is vital to S2F as we create a sense of belonging for our program participants (PP), resulting in increased confidence, improved mental health, and a healthy support system during early recovery. Service to others is an essential part of S2F’s mission, as it is an opportunity for PP to give back to the greater community. PP have reported that volunteering was just as impactful, if not more so, than participating in a 5k event. These service opportunities allow them to engage with others and be fully seen, not as an IEH, someone dealing with SUD, or mental health concerns, but as someone who has something meaningful to offer others and the community. Most importantly, it has a positive impact on their mental health, which results in positive impacts on their physical health. We are only as healthy as our most vulnerable population and by engaging with S2F, participants are able to build healthy habits that will sustain them in their journey to long-term recovery. Through comprehensive wellness programming, S2F creates a safe, encouraging community where PP can learn with their peers as they all work to cross literal and figurative finish lines. S2F believes health and exercise are not luxuries for the privileged but necessities for all, especially for IEH who often do not have the support or necessary resources.
