Mission Statement
Kolkata Foundation, a US-based 501 c(3) non-profit, is building a global network of philanthropists focused on fighting poverty in Kolkata/Bengal by supporting and scaling high-impact Kolkata NGOs with a commitment to transparency and governance. All administrative costs are borne by our board of trustees, so that all of your money can go towards helping those in need.
About This Cause
Kolkata, West Bengal has some of India's largest slums where millions live in abhorrent poverty on less than $2/day. Hundreds of thousands of children fall prey to sex-trafficking as they loiter around the streets without access to education. No attention has been given to this problem since Mother Theresa highlighted their plight many decades ago. Kolkata Foundation was established with a couple of simple goals: + To create a global platform for Calcuttans (and other concerned philanthropists) to give back in a systematic and synchronized manner (as opposed to an ad-hoc, individual, disorganized effort). Our goal is to be the fulcrum for all philanthropic efforts between Kolkata and the rest of the world. + To maximize the impact of donations by finding really good non-profits working on the ground in Kolkata, and monitoring/growing their efforts through our network of volunteers. Help these non-profits scale their impact by providing them with funds, improving their operations, providing management guidance, and connecting them with exceptional peer organizations around the world. Our initial 3 NGOs, selected after reviewing over 200, have a long track record of impact, multiple national & international awards, a commitment to transparency and governance, FCRA approvals, and a strong desire to grow.
