Mission Statement
Fighting hunger in North Texas while preserving the dignity of those we serve.
About This Cause
The North Texas Community Table, Inc, dba The Community Table, a 501©3 non-profit food pantry, located in North Richland Hills, TX pantry serves approximately four hundred fifty unduplicated families (two thousand, two hundred people) each month. The Community Table is an entirely volunteer organization which provides supplemental food assistance for each member of the families served. The guests (clients) come from a wide area in North Texas as the Table has no geographic restrictions. Often guests come from greater than 30 miles away to receive assistance. Guests of the Table live in the socio-economic status defined as “below poverty” by the United States Department of Agriculture. As vast as our service coverage area is, our cultural diversity is even greater. We currently serve individuals who natively speak four languages: English, Spanish, Arabic and French. Likewise, the ages of our guests vary greatly. The Table serves infancy through those who are well into their nineties. Approximately eighty percent of our emancipated guests work or are retired. Very few of our guests of working age are not employed. The Community Table is operated in a farmers’ market/grocery store style which strives to provide fresh produce, meats, and dairy products, as well as staples to meet a variety of food needs. After completing a one-time application, our guests can shop once per-week and without any charge. Each can select items that are appetizing and best fit the needs of their family. This process provides autonomy, dignity, and respect to each guest. By continuing to afford each guest the opportunity to shop weekly, we assist our community in meeting critical hunger needs that stem from other circumstances, such as food-stamp shortages, insufficient funds, and unexpected life events. The mission of North Texas Community Table, Inc. is “Fighting hunger in North Texas while maintaining the dignity and respect of those we serve.” To that end we have been fighting hunger since 2013 when we began serving just fifteen families food once a week. In that five-year time frame the Table has grown and now serves 460 unduplicated families each month who receive food once a week. In 2016 we became a 501(c) 3 non-profit charity to further our efforts to receive funding and allow us to continue to grow and reach more people in need. We are continuing to grow each month while maintaining dedication to our core values: Relational: We desire to be build a safe, trusted space for our guests that allows them to feel comfortable seeking our assistance in one or more areas. In addition, we strive to build strong community partnerships. We understand the importance of these relationships and aim to connect with organizations with similar values that complement our work. Equity: It is the belief of the Table that often community services are not designed with the developmental input those intended to receive them. We strive to create stakeholder involvement that examines not only the immediate needs of our guests, but also systemic concerns. Transition: Knowing that our community has multifaceted needs, we believe a one-dimensional model cannot adequately address these concerns. We have and continue to design service models and expand the services to be provided to assist our guests to move from their current living situation to better conditions. Excellence: In all that we do, we strive to provide excellence in our process by designing quality models that are efficient, respectful and go beyond current standards of practice.
