About This Cause
The Dirt Road Project (TDRP) began its work in Haiti in 2017 in the rural mountainous farming communities of the Central Plateau and Nord departments. The foundation of TDRP is built upon four fundamental cornerstones: healthcare, agriculture, housing, and adult education/vocational training. Since its inception, TDRP has developed multiple programs to assist individuals in their mission to self-sustainability. These include: (1) ASPIRE is an education/vocational program geared towards adults 18+ years of age who were never afforded an education due to socioeconomic constraints. ASPIRE operates five class levels that advance an individual's reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, ultimately leading to employment opportunities. (2) VILLAGE OF HOPE is a housing program benefitting those living in extreme poverty and squalor. To date, two families have received new homes, housing a total of 18 individuals from the harsh environment of Haiti. (3) REACH is a tuition assistance program for families unable to send their child(ren) to school. In addition, REACH offers students over 18 years of age an opportunity to advance their university studies to become employable. Over 100 elementary students receive scholarships, uniforms, shoes, and supplies every year, and four adult students have received full tuition assistance to attend university in pursuit of higher learning. (4) HOPE HEALTH is a community health outreach program providing routine medical care and urgent hospitalization assistance. Plans include developing the HOPE HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER (HHMC) in the community of Berou, which will feature urgent care, maternal/child wellness, dentistry, surgical, laboratory, and pharmacy. As medical care is unavailable to residents of Berou, HHMC is vital to this community's generational survival. (5) SPROUT is a community-based garden program designed to assist families in eradicating food insecurity by providing opportunities to assist SPROUT staff with the maintenance of the gardens and the ability to return home with nutritional food for the family unit. Currently, over 850 individuals are served in the community of Sapaterre, and a second SPROUT garden is being developed in Berou, where more than 1000 individuals will be assisted in meeting their nutritional needs. (6) NOURI is a multi-acre fruit farm in Berou that will provide nutritious mixed-use fruits yearly. This farm initiative will assist in feeding the community and employing residents at its fair-trade processing plant. (7) BRIDGE is a program to assist students in learning English as a second language and provide each student with additional skills needed for employment.
