Mission Statement
We launched the Tyler Moniz Project to celebrate the extraordinary life Tyler Moniz. We will carry out this mission by supporting educational and community programs that promote happiness, well-being and hope. Through the Tyler Moniz Project, we want to start a conversation. We know that suicidal thoughts grow in the darkest, most private, most shame-filled places. By casting light on this difficult subject and by offering an understanding hand, we want to help people find a way out. Everyone deserves to be happy!
About This Cause
Some of our projects include: 1. Installing Conversation Benches in prominent places in our community and schools. A gentle reminder that there is always someone willing to listen. 2. Providing scholarships for kindness and sportsmanship, which are open to all BHS students 3. Sponsoring educational suicide prevention programs throughout the community. 4. Staffing a community information and awareness booth at the Grand Old 4th of July Parade and other major events on the island. 5. Testifying in front of the Washington Legislature in support of increased funding for higher education level mental health programs. Participating in the work group to distribute the funding to qualified programs. 6. Launching a capital campaign to bring a youth-centered coffee house to Bainbridge Island that offers mentor ship, job training and crisis counseling to youth 1. Organizing a support groups for families affected by suicide attempts and families that have lost a child 2. Providing a counseling space for youth that have attempted suicide or have suicidal ideations. 3. Sponsoring a Mental Wellness Walk in the spring of 2020.
