Mission Statement
Boise Contemporary Theater (BCT) is the only professional theater in the state of Idaho devoted solely to the production of new, original, and contemporary work. Over the past twenty-four seasons, BCT has established itself as a leader in the artistic landscape of the Rocky Mountain West. BCT is also one of the few performing arts organizations in the Treasure Valley area that owns and operates its own space. BCT’s 231-seat theater on Fulton Street in the heart of Boise’s Cultural District provides a unique and intimate theater-going experience, entertaining nearly 200,000 audience members since 2000.
About This Cause
The mission of Boise Contemporary Theater (BCT) is to inspire our community to examine our perspectives and better understand ourselves, each other, and the world around us by creating thought-provoking stories of the human experience. We seek to be the place people choose for transformational experiences, and recognized as an irreplaceable driver of the arts and culture in Boise and beyond. BCT produces 4-5 Mainstage plays a season from September through May, focusing on new and contemporary work. These productions have included world-premiere work by award-winning and nationally acclaimed playwrights such as Eric Coble, Lauren Weedman, Brian Quirk, Maria Dahvana Headley, Michael Rohd, and Samuel D. Hunter, winner of the MacArthur Fellowship. BCT is also home to three classrooms and a large rehearsal loft space that provide a home to BCT’s Theater Lab program, the first program in the area to teach skills and techniques of modern playmaking to young artists ages 12 – 18. BCT also produces two staged reading series. The 5X5 Series features professional readings from today's most talented playwrights, and the BCT Children's Reading Series introduces the newest theater-goers (ages 5 – 12) to contemporary theater for young audiences. BCT also provides affordable office, rehearsal, classroom, and performance space to several area performing arts organizations, including the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Treefort Music Fest, and others. BCT is an essential component of the area’s cultural landscape, and was named the City of Boise's Cultural Ambassador for 2022-23.
