Mission Statement

The National Redistricting Foundation (NRF) seeks to bolster existing legal challenges to gerrymandered congressional and state legislative districts, and bring forth new litigation to challenge unfair maps.

About This Cause

Gerrymandering has deprived voters of the opportunity to fully and fairly elect the representatives of their choice - it's a practice that diminishes a voter’s influence and depresses the public’s faith in our electoral system. The National Redistricting Foundation (NRF) seeks to bolster existing legal challenges to gerrymandered congressional and state legislative districts, and bring forth new litigation to challenge unfair maps. The NRF will challenge districts that are unconstitutionally gerrymandered, building on recent precedent of courts striking down intentionally discriminatory districts. The Foundation is strengthening the voting power of minority communities by creating more majority-minority districts where legally required under the Voting Rights Act. The creation of majority-minority districts has played a critical role in the increased voting power and representation of majority-minority communities. NRF will challenge maps that cut against our aspiration to create inclusive voting districts and advocate for the voting and political power of minority groups. Through this work, the Foundation hopes to restore the public’s faith in a true representative democracy and to ensure that the Voting Rights Act remains a powerful tool for achieving voting parity for minority communities.
