Mission Statement

We are a 501c3 dedicated to helping the vulnerable in western Uganda

About This Cause

Project Hope Uganda is a 503c nonprofit registered in the Vancouver, WA , USA in 2017, although we have been working in Uganda since 2012. Our work is focused in Western Uganda, specifically deep in villages in the Bundibugyo district, an area a couple of miles from the Congo border. We employ 5 full time Ugandans and 30 part time Ugandans. Our US board consists of 6 US based individuals working on a volunteer basis. We began our jourey in 2012 by starting an orphanage, where we have taken in over 100 orphans over the years and covered their basic needs, living expenses, medical care and school fees. In 2016, as our students became older, we saw the need and build our vocational home. Here, older students live and learn a vocational trade such as hair dressing, tailoring, welding, motorcycle repair, food vending, computer/phone repair, nursing, welding, woodworking to name a few. The past 5 years, we started a microloan program to loan for individuals to start businesses, pay medical bills, go to school and build homes. This program has had some great successes and we have funded over 50 loans. Our stories of hope program cares for people in urgent medical situations to provide lifesaving care. We saved many lives and unfortunately have lost several lives. Legs and arms have had to be amputated, eyes removed after injuries, lifelong conditions that have advanced to severe stages have been treated, cancers treated, surgieries performed and we have provided many with end of life comfort care which is not normally accessible for the large majority. Our biggest pride, is our daughter, Mailyn Miracle Lhukogho. In January 2020, Mailyn was placed in a plastic bag after her birth and thrown over an embankment. She was left for 3 days before being discovered. Her story is a miracle and after court proceedings, we are so blessed to have her as our own. Currently we have 7 toddler programs that serve over 850 students. We have 22 leaders that gather to teach young children basic English so they can be better prepared to begin school. Most parents deep in villages do not know English and since schools are taught in English, these children begin school struggling. We have seen great success with this program over the past 5 years. Our community health team consists of 6 health workers in 3 remote areas. This team focuses on teaching about puberty, hiv, sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and dispels the many medical myths that plague the culture. We focus our time mostly in schools and then when schools are on break, we gather into the communities. Recently, we have been able to gain the trust of sex workers and provide them with condoms, education and encouragement to pursue other vocations. In addition to the above programs, we have a wellness club and a sports club. Our wellness club provides handwashing facilities and soap to two schools with over 1000 students as well as our current orphanage, secondary and vocational students with food supplement on the weekends and quarterly deworming. Our sports program provides sports equipment for our students and toddler programs. For some of these children, they have never been able to even touch a ball until this program was began a few years ago. In September of 2024, we closed on buying a plot of land in the village of Kiko. Our hope is to break ground in the coming months to build a business center with multiple businesses where our vocational students can work and live after they have completed their training. We are always incredibly grateful for any donations received that have allowed us to do what we do. All funds go directly to helping the less fortunate people of Uganda. We have transitioned our website to be hosted in Uganda so it is in progress and our social media accounts get periodically updated. www.projecthopeuganda.org Please give us a follow. @projecthopeuganda Thank you for your support!!!
