PHILADELPHIA INDEPENDENCE AWARDS

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19147 United States

Mission Statement

The Philadelphia Independence Awards celebrates regional high school musical theater and its student artists by providing rigorous development for existing high school theater programs, promoting diverse elements of the professional theater community, and fostering support for under-resourced school theater programs. Achieving these measures requires: Recruiting professional and community theater artists, theater educators, and theater/music graduate students to provide intensive, focused, and custom feedback to directors on their productions from which they may develop their respective programs. Offering free workshops to students of participating schools on a wide-range of theater opportunities, both on and off the stage. Hosting an awards ceremony for the principal purpose of recognizing outstanding achievements in high school theater, thereby cultivating community, collaboration, discipline, and artistic excellence. Fundraising for under-resourced school theater programs in any stage of its development.

About This Cause

Every year, thousands of students around the Philadelphia region participate in their high school musical productions, bringing together family, friends, teachers, and even college recruiters to experience the magic of theater. We are excited to share with YOUR COMPANY the opportunity to become an Exclusive Sponsor of The Philadelphia Independence Awards. The Philadelphia Independence Awards, a public charity nonprofit 501(c)(3), is the Philadelphia region's largest high school musical theater competition. Now in our fourth year, we recruit professional artists, educators, and graduate students to adjudicate over 20 high school musical theater productions. At the end of the year, adjudicators nominate students in over 20 categories, recognizing everything from Best Set to Best Lead Actors and - the most coveted award - Best Musical! We also work to provide educational opportunities for students and grants to under-resourced schools so every student gets the opportunity to participate in musical theater. In 2021 -2023, we participated in the National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA), made possible through a sponsorship by the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus. The NHSMTA is a weeklong intensive program during which students receive training from Broadway's most talented artists and compete for scholarships and attention from Broadway's leading Casting Directors. Philadelphia's two nominees earned national recognition and $5,000 in scholarships - a first for the Philadelphia region! Typically, our awards ceremony, held at the Temple University Performing Arts Center, involves 1100 Philadelphia-area students, their families, professional artists, and educators gathering to celebrate student accomplishments in musical theater. The production is co-hosted by 6abc Action News anchor Rick Williams and Broadway actress Jenny Lee Stern, and featured guest performances by Philadelphia talent currently performing on Broadway! Our efforts, however, are only possible with the support of our community. As an Exclusive Partner, YOUR COMPANY will obtain sole advertising and promotional opportunities, accessing Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Bucks counties. We encourage you to visit www.independenceawards.com where you will find more information on our organization and a recap video of our year. I hope to hear from you soon, and we thank you in advance for your generosity. Follow us on Instagram! @independenceawards
