Mission Statement
Raas All-Stars (RAS) began in 2009 as a humble vision to support vital philanthropic causes to the South Asian community, as well as celebrate the Raas-Garba tradition, a folk dance originating from Western India. In its fourteen years, RAS has quickly become one of the largest collegiate dance organizations, creating an expansive alumni network of 15,000+ of the nation’s most elite Raas-Garba dancers and competition board members across the country. Pursuing a greater philanthropic mission, RAS has also donated to numerous organizations dedicated to preserving South Asian traditions in the past thirteen years. Amidst the global pandemic, RAS has dedicated this year to highlight and educate the greater community on specific social justice issues, such as mental health stigma and sexual misconduct. Through hosting virtual town halls for over 50 cities across the country and providing resources especially for the South Asian community, RAS hopes to increase awareness across the national dance circuit.
About This Cause
Raas All-Stars (RAS) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting the performing arts, particularly the traditional Indian dance style of Raas-Garba, as well as a greater philanthropic mission. Specifically, RAS: * Unites a community of 64 teams and over 5,000 dancers, musicians and competition organizers across the country * Host the RAS national showcase each spring, annually attended by 1,500 people * Provide a platform for artistic expression and cultural exchange * Partner with philanthropies to support cultural arts and education
