Mission Statement
To raise awareness of and support research for peritoneal mesothelioma and provide travel assistance to those diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma.
About This Cause
The Em' for Emily (The Em') was formed in 2017 as a golf tournament/dinner/silent auction event to honor and memorialize the life of Emily Brown Kocis (www. theemforemily.org) who lost her war with peritoneal mesothelioma at the age of 28 leaving behind a loving husband and 3 year old daughter- Ellie now 6 years old. We raise money to assist the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation(curemeso.org) with research funding and patient travel assistance. In our first year (2017) we donated $28,000 to MARF. In our 2nd year (2018) we donated $30,000 to be shared between MARF and Let There Be Mom (www.lettherebemom.org)- a local charity that assists parents with terminal illnesses to leave a legacy to their children. In our first 3 years we have donated over $100,000! We are governed by an 8 person board who meets monthly to run The Em' which is held in late September each year to coincide with National Mesothelioma Awareness Day held annually on Sept. 26 and Emily's birthday on Oct. 4. The 2020 The Em’ will be held Sat. Oct.3! We have decided to postpone the 2020 The Em’ for Emily event due to Covid 19 making donations even more important this year!
