Mission Statement
EcoTHRIVE Housing is a nonprofit working to create beautiful, affordable, resident-owned villages in King County, Washington that nurture community, human resilience and joy.
About This Cause
ecoTHRIVE Housing is a on a mission to create beautiful, permanently affordable, community-owned villages. Our work is grounded in a simple yet radical belief: that housing can be a source of belonging, climate resilience, and economic justice. We’re building the first resilient village in Burien, WA—a 27-cottage, resident-owned community with shared amenities, native and edible landscaping, and a cooperative governance model rooted in equity, interdependence, and joy. Unlike speculative development, our model creates long-term affordability for current and future generations. Through a Community Land Trust and shared equity approach, residents will co-own their homes and community infrastructure—investing in place, each other, and the ecosystems they inhabit. ecoTHRIVE’s model addresses three interconnected crises: 1. The housing affordability crisis—by creating pathways to resident-owned housing for low- and moderate-income people who’ve been historically excluded from homeownership. 2. The climate crisis—by building compact, energy-efficient villages near transit and designed for regenerative living. 3. The loneliness and disconnection epidemic—by nurturing shared space, cultural exchange, and collective care. Our design process began with two questions we asked hundreds of people across King County: - What do you need to thrive? - What do you value? The answers revealed a shared longing: for nourishment, for safety, for beauty, and for community. From these conversations, ecoTHRIVE’s vision emerged: villages designed not only to meet basic needs, but to feed the soul. If this resonates with you, we’d love to connect. Whether you’re a future resident, potential funder, policy ally, or curious supporter—welcome. You’re part of this village already!
