Mission Statement
SOS supports all members of expectant families considering adoption. We are committed to helping them make fully informed decisions based on information that so many other families have learned too late. We are dedicated to ensuring that they avoid applying a permanent solution to a temporary crisis based on partial or misinformation. SOS is dedicated to direct action and education regarding the preservation of biological families whenever possible. This may include assisting expectant and new parents by locating resources, explaining the long and short term effects of adoption separation on everyone in the natural family, explaining the lifelong effects of trauma their infant will suffer if exposed to maternal separation, and connecting them with a local support person and mentor. SOS welcomes volunteers, donations and donors to join us in empowering and preserving families by preventing unnecessary adoptions and advocating for fair and ethical adoption laws, policies and practices.
About This Cause
SOS began as a grassroots effort after one mother learned too late about the adoption industry’s marketing and how it facilitates the separation of vulnerable mothers from their children. In an effort to channel her grief into something positive, Renee Gelin connected with Lisa Woolsey and together they came up with the idea that they must reach mothers in crisis and focus on helping them preserve their families from being unnecessarily separated via adoption, like their’s have been. Renee continued to connect with other mothers of unnecessary adoption loss, adoptees, adoptive parents and other concerned citizens and formed an online nationwide network. Lisa put her efforts into both online and local avenues to live the mission of SOS. She has converted her local church to a family preservation congregation where they direct pregnant mothers in crisis to Lisa. These mothers are educated of all the facts of infant adoption and then surrounded by support and love of the community. SOS focuses on family preservation utilizing an all volunteer network to support parents and their families by providing them with the education, resources to tools to successfully navigate their crisis and build confidence in themselves and their abilities. All of these things help them successfully parent their children. As a network comprised of individuals across the United States, SOS through information, advocacy and support, provides families the information to make informed decisions for the best possible outcome for their family unit and generations of family to come.
