Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve as a steward for community-controlled land; to be a catalyst for values driven, community-serving development; to build awareness and community leadership in issues of housing, transportation and recreation; and to create programs and initiatives that encourage community building and economic opportunity.
About This Cause
Black Owned And Operated Community Land Trust (founded in 2017) is a community-based initiative to stabilize neighborhoods in Black and Under served communities, where increased property values and rents have pushed out many long-term residents. For example for the last decade, as government and corporate efforts have helped to establish places like Downtown Los Angeles as a 24/7 ‘Live-Work-Play’ city, long-time residents that have actually lived, worked and played in downtown and in the surrounding areas for many decades are being forced out of their communities due to real estate pressures, which have minimally lessened even under the current economic recession. Sole Folks is a pilot program of the 501(C)(3) Black Owned and Operated CLT, a nonprofit aimed at supporting entrepreneurs, ethnic minorities, startup & small businesses who seek advice, guidance & funding to grow. Sole Folks is a retail/entrepreneur incubation program. The mission is to create a space where minority businesses can learn about bringing products to market. The facility is set up as a high end department store and pop up bistro that sells participants goods. To the naked eye it’s a retail store but behind the scenes it’s a campus equipped with a classroom. Sole Folks is geared towards millennial entrepreneurs. Sole Folks uses sneakers as a tool to 1) fundraise 2) capture the attention of young adults who are captivated by the sneaker culture 3) to draw in the sneaker connoisseurs and collectors, (a demographic of educated shoppers) 4) instant cool factor once members products are adjacent to coveted sneakers. Sole Folks is a sneaker boutique with a purpose.
