SEATTLE, Washington, 98178-3821 United States

Mission Statement

The Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle aim to educate and reduce barriers facing youth and the community by focusing on horsemanship, historical education, and outdoor experiences. They believe engaging with horses and learning about history can foster mental and emotional growth, helping address mental health challenges among teens and adults.

About This Cause

The Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the historic 9th and 10th Cavalry—America’s first all-Black regiments in the U.S. Army—while uplifting the lives of today’s youth through education, mentorship, and equestrian experiences. Rooted in a spirit of service and cultural pride, the organization uses horsemanship, historical education, and outdoor activities to connect with underserved communities and inspire personal growth. Through school visits, parades, community events, and free horseback riding experiences, the Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle offer unique opportunities for young people to learn about history, develop confidence, and see beyond their current environment. Their programs focus on mental and emotional wellness, helping youth and families cope with life’s challenges through positive engagement and exposure to nature. By honoring the past and investing in the future, the Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle serve as powerful role models and agents of change, promoting equity, resilience, and unity across the Pacific Northwest.
