Mission Statement

Our mission is to create pathways to peace between Israelis and Palestinians through healthcare.

About This Cause

Project Rozana was launched in Australia in 2013 by Mr. Ron Finkel. It was inspired by the remarkable story of survival of a young Palestinian girl, Rozana Salawhi, due to her treatment at Hadassah Hospital. Our mission is to create pathways to peace between Israelis and Palestinians through healthcare, an area where they both meet on a broad scale. Due to a deficient healthcare infrastructure in the West Bank and Gaza, many Palestinians seek medical care in Israel. The Israeli government issues over 100,000 daily entry permits a year to Palestinians to receive treatment in Israeli hospitals. These realities create a unique opportunity for Palestinians and Israelis to get to know and trust each other, create hope and good will in this troubled region and can contribute to peace between the two peoples. Project Rozana's community-wide, multi-faith health initiative achieves this by raising funds to: 1. Train Palestinian health professionals in Israeli hospitals in order for them to return and build the health capacities of their communities, particularly where there are identified gaps. 2. Transport Palestinian patients from their homes in Gaza and the West Bank to hospitals in Israel via our partner NGOs, Road to Recovery and Green Land Society for Health Development. 3. Treat critically-ill Palestinian children in Israeli hospitals, in particular cases where funding from the Palestinian Authority is not available. The following short video, A Day in the Life of Project Rozana, is a good introduction to the kind of projects that we raise funds for: https://projectrozana.org/project/a-day-in-the-life-of-project-rozana/ Among the specific projects that we currently fund are: • Road to Recovery – transport Palestinian patients and their caregivers from the West Bank and Gaza border crossings to hospitals in Israel. • Sponsor fellowships of Palestinian doctors in needed sub-specialties at Israeli hospitals, to help strengthen Palestinian healthcare capacity in the Wes Bank • Binational School of Psychotherapy – train and up-skill Israeli, West Bank and Gaza-based child psychologists with a specific focus on techniques to assist children suffering from PTSD • Peace in Sight – establish an ocular genetic research unit at St John Eye Hospital, East Jerusalem. The unit will train Palestinian ophthalmologists to deal with the very high incidence of genetic eye disease • Peritoneal Dialysis - train Palestinian health professionals in the provision of peritoneal dialysis, which can be administered at home, to relieve pressure on existing hospital dialysis infrastructure • Patient Navigators – provide psycho-social support for Palestinian families and caregivers while in Israeli hospitals by relating to them in a familiar language and a well understood cultural-religious context We believe that both a political track and grassroots work are essential elements of an Israeli-Palestinian peace strategy. In fact, experience in other "hot spots" in world suggests that without building constituencies and cultures of peace among both Israelis and Palestinians, future peace negotiations will not have the environment and public support they will need to succeed. Project Rozana does exactly that, while also developing improved healthcare infrastructure on the West Bank and in Gaza.
