Mission Statement
The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is southern Maine’s first LGBTQ+ community center. It provides a) shared office and meeting space for LGBTQ+ and allied organizations; b) gathering and organizing space for justice-minded individuals and groups; and c) resources and support to the LGBTQ+ community. Primary populations served previously included LGBTQ+ youth, trans, elders, families and individual community members, and has expanded to include folks on the margins from all walks of life.
About This Cause
The Equality Community Center is a safe and inclusive gathering space for Portland’s LGBTQ and justice-oriented community, housing tenant orgs EqualityMaine, SAGE Maine (a program of EQME); MaineTransNet; Pride Portland!, PFLAG-Portland; Khmer Maine; Cross Cultural Community Services; and Democracy Maine, parent org of the League of Women Voters, Students Vote, and Maine Clean Elections.
