About This Cause

Black Child Development Institute Ohio is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and advancing the quality of life for Ohio's children, working tirelessly to eradicate barriers and challenges that hinder their growth and development which encompasses a multifaceted strategy involving research, programming, and policy advocacy, and by leveraging research insights and collaborating with community stakeholders, we develop targeted programs to support Ohio's children and families. BCDI Ohio centers programming and advocacy which responds to provision of resources and spaces that affirm youth and their families (eg Read to Succeed program, Good for Me Curriculum, Fatherhood Table Talks, support health and wellness (mental health, health, environmental climate justice- e.g ECE Hub (culturally responsive early childhood mental health hub supporting caregivers, educators, and children), Trauma Informed Care Training), and ensuring that educators can effectively respond to the unique needs of Ohio's youth (portfolio of professional development opportunities) and co-leading Ohio's prenatal to three coalition. Our vision within 2 years is to build a league of multi-racial change agents throughout Ohio who are dedicated to becoming the informed voice in dismantling systems that perpetuate access for all Ohio families. Leaders sought must be willing to lead with a collaborative approach, value lived experiences and align their efforts to support and achieve obtainable and accessible supports and resources for families to thrive. In an effort to elevate our voices, acknowledge our expertise, share power with allies who can fund the league with non-discretionary funding to support building shared power.
