Mission Statement
We are on a mission to end relational poverty and inspire people everywhere to embrace their homeless neighbors not as problems to be solved, but as people to be loved. We envision a world where everyone is nurtured by a social support system and sense of belonging – a social home – whether or not they currently have stable housing. We are dedicated to reconnecting our homeless neighbors with their loved ones, in order to help rebuild their social support systems and improve their physical, mental, and social well-being.
About This Cause
Miracle Messages is an award-winning 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps people experiencing homelessness rebuild their social support systems and financial security, primarily through family reunifications, a phone buddy program, and basic income pilots. We believe relational poverty is poverty. Reunion services: An unhoused individual records a short message to a loved one (or vice versa). Then, our volunteer digital detectives attempt to locate the loved one and deliver the message. To date, we've reunited over 700 families. Phone buddy program: Miracle Friends matches trained volunteers with unhoused neighbors for weekly calls and texts, as a type of Big Brothers Big Sisters for the homeless. To date, 250 volunteers worldwide have logged over 10,000 calls/texts. Basic income pilots: Miracle Money is one of the first basic income programs for the homeless in the United States. In our initial pilot, we distributed $500 a month for six months to 14 unhoused participants – 66% secured stable housing. Miracle Messages offers a humane, highly effective way to help end homelessness. Our work has been featured in PBS NewsHour, New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Fast Company, in a TED talk, in an essay by President Bush, and more. Founder and CEO Kevin F.
