Mission Statement
Founded by Utah’s legendary boxing brothers, (Gene, Jay, and Don) Fullmer Boxing has long maintained a safe learning environment, mentoring thousands of disadvantaged kids in the unique sport of boxing (contact and no-contact) at no cost. The mission of the Fullmer Legacy Foundation is to memorialize the Fullmer legacy through 3 primary goals: 1. Support Fullmer Boxing amateur boxing program. 2. Construct the Fullmer Legacy Center (FLC). The FLC will become a permanent community sports complex for Fullmer Boxing programs, an event space for local, regional, and national amateur boxing tournaments and a shared community space with South Jordan City and Salt Lake County. 3. Expand Fullmer Boxing programs through non-contact boxing and programs for women, seniors, and those with disabilities. Fullmer Boxing (contact and no contact) programs build resilience, determination, and strength of character in those who participate. These programs have been demonstrated to be especially effective with a placed at-risk segment of the population. The age range of participants in Fullmer Boxing programs is typically from 8 to 25 years. Fullmer Boxing has worked with local law enforcement to coordinate with youth who need the structure and discipline of the program, offering support for transportation or other barriers that would keep them from participating. The Fullmer Legacy Center will house the Fullmer Legacy Foundation and Fullmer Boxing, which is supported by its association with the nationally-linked Rocky Mountain Golden Gloves amateur boxing program. The new FLC will become an event space for local, regional, and national amateur boxing tournaments to promote the cultural enrichment benefits of this sport and a shared community space with South Jordan City and Salt Lake County, hosting various programs designed to help community members achieve and maintain physical, psychological and emotional well-being.
About This Cause
After retiring from professional boxing, the ‘Fighting Fulmer’s’ gave back to their community through the sport of amateur boxing, mentoring thousands of Utah kids until the end of their lives providing a safe, structured, and supportive environment, always at no cost to the participant. Buoyed by the generous support of the community and thousands of volunteer hours, Fullmer Boxing Gym has continued its mission as envisioned by the brothers, in part by collaborating with the Rocky Mountain Golden Gloves franchise. Through RMGG, regional boxing tournaments are hosted in Utah for amateur boxers from Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, impacting over 1,700 youth. In 2018, USA Boxing awarded Fullmer Boxing a Lifetime Achievement award. Also, Fullmer Boxing hosted three National Golden Gloves tournaments in 2009, 2013, and 2016. In its current location, Fullmer Boxing accommodates 60 participants daily, registering 160 youth annually. Geographical areas served include South and West Jordan, Utah where the Fullmer brothers grew up. With over a 7% to 13% poverty rate, additional support is needed for community members on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum. Fullmer Boxing programs build resilience, determination, and confidence in those who participate. These programs have been demonstrated to be especially effective with a placed at-risk segment of the population. The age range of participants in Fullmer Boxing programs is typically from 8 to 25 years with most participants from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities. All community members of all abilities are welcome to participate in Fullmer Legacy programs not specifically associated with amateur boxing as more people are discovering the wellness/fitness benefits of no contact boxing. After the construction of the Fullmer Legacy Center, programs will be expanded to support women, seniors, veterans, and folks with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's.
