About This Cause

MOBILITYDOG MISSION Mobility Service Dogs-West Coast Project DBA MobilityDog advances FUNctional independence for people with disabilities through service dogs, education, and empowerment. MOBILITYDOG VISION Our vision is for the community of people with mobility disabilities to live full, vibrant lives and achieve FUNctional independence with or without a service dog’s assistance. We seek to create a user-friendly pathway for adults with mobility challenges. MOBILITYDOG CORE VALUES Integrity. Transparency. Community. Empathy. Action. Support. Respect. MOBILTYDOG ALSO VALUES MobilityDog values FUNctional independence, reliability, bond-based puppy rearing, demonstrating empathy, hosting meetups to assist with all mobility needs, and connecting humans to canines. We offer support to embrace your best living. WHAT MOBILITYDOG DOES We provide wellness training, education, and support to adults with mobility-based disabilities to help them navigate and overcome the many obstacles they encounter daily. MobilityDog plays a vital role in the community by educating what a service dog team is. MOBILITYDOG GOALS MobilityDog raises, trains, and matches poodles with individuals with mobility disabilities. In addition, we provide wellness training, education, and support to individuals with mobility disabilities to help them navigate and overcome the many obstacles they encounter daily. MobilityDog plays a key role in educating businesses and organizations about the role of service dog teams in the community. MOBILITYDOG DOGS Only a remarkable canine can become a service dog. In training, we only use loving positive reinforcement in socializing, playing, training, handling, doggie-fun, educating, and tasking our dogs! Our Service Dogs-in-Training are brought up with Puppy Culture creating confidence and ready for the world! We rehome our donated poodles from breeders and rescue agencies whose priorities are their health, temperament, and working ability. As a result, they love learning and working; happy dogs make the best service dogs! MOBILITYDOG HANDLERS MobilityDog works with adults of all ages and mature 16.5-year-olds seeking a pathway to adulthood. Each service dog handler must be able to care for their dog and be an active member of our community. Each service dog program is unique, with specialties and niches. Please read about MobilityDog and see if we are a good match! Questions are encouraged. MOBILITYDOG EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS Our educational programs, PAWS that Empower, Reading Circles, and WAG, introduce the importance of Equality for All. We aim to give each person knowledge and confidence to open discussions regarding perceived differences, creating conversations that step forward. MobilityDog is present to support the educational process in schools, businesses, and the community as we teach vital living skills. MOBILITYDOG SUPPORTS WORKING SERVICE DOG TEAMS In 1990, civil rights protection was given to people with disabilities when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed. The ADA protects the rights of people with disabilities to participate in the same activities each day as people without disabilities. Warning: It is a Federal crime to make materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements, entries, or representations knowingly and willfully to secure disability accommodations provided under regulations of the United States Department of Transportation (18 U.S.C. § 1001). A service dog is chosen as a medical device that allows daily FUNctional independence. Many look at a Service Dog Team and say, ”I want to take my dog everywhere too,” without understanding that it is because of a life alternating injury, disease, or debilitating diagnosis that has taken place prior to stepping into a service dog team. MobilityDog will report fraudulent untrained service dogs because they put working service dog teams in harm’s way. MobilityDog Next Step Our three-year strategic plan moves MobilityDog towards hiring our first paid staff members to achieve our vision of creating The Center of Excellence and Wellness Garden. Once we hire staff, the next step is finding a permanent home for MobilityDog to expand our capacity to support the disabled community and drive disability inclusion. The Center of Excellence and Wellness Garden will enable us to increase the number of service dogs in training we can raise, train and match annually and expand our educational outreach programming to create a more inclusive world. The next step is funding salaried nonprofit staff to support the expansion of MobilityDog, while fundraising for the Center of Excellence. Hiring staff is critical to advancing our ultimate vision of building out The Center of Excellence and Wellness Garden (The Center). The Center, fondly called The Poodle Palace by our team, will house our core programs, workshops, and social gatherings. The Center will fill a huge void for people with disabilities and their families, creating an interactive space they can come to on their own to develop FUNctional independence to continue living their lives. The area will be designed with multi-level walkways for all people with disabilities to find solutions to navigate life confidently. Since 2018, MobilityDog has supported well over 8,000 people through service dogs, public outreach, listening/sharing information for user-friendly pathways, and our educational programs, PAWS, and WAG workshops. The Center of Excellence and Wellness Gardens will fill a huge void for people with disabilities and their families, creating a space they can come to on their own to create FUNctional independence to continue living their lives. The Wellness Garden’s design will allow everyone to build the confidence to dream, which is essential for everyday joy. The Center for Excellence and Wellness Garden will be an interactive community supporting the growth of all people with mobility disabilities and their families. It will house our core programming, workshops, and social gatherings. The Wellness Garden with multi-level walkways for all people with disabilities to find solutions to navigate life confidently. A place to gather as you learn to navigate ramps and pathways of different materials and inclines as they find solutions to navigate their life confidently with their chosen medical device. In the Wellness Garden, we will bring in experts who know the healing power of herbs and medicinal plants for balance and healing powers as we learn to grow, dry, and cultivate in the dirt. The Center will be a space where people can learn to navigate ramps and pathways of different materials and inclines, understanding and redefining their needs at home and work. The ongoing workshops will show tools and possibilities, removing the limits while focussing on the abilities. Local students can participate in mentorship programs, learn to raise service dogs, and gain hands-on experience as they learn a trade such as a dog walking, dog grooming, and basic dog training to support themselves as they follow their dreams. Local community members can volunteer to assist with feeding, walking, bathing, and training while learning new tasks. A bond will form between the community and MobilityDog. The Center of Excellence and Wellness Garden will support a positive environment to normalize disabilities for all. The space will also serve as an Accessibility and Disability Model for all Corporate and Educational Institutions.
