Mission Statement
There are more food pantries in the US than there are McDonald's, yet the majority of Americans facing hunger don't take that help. We believe the power of tech & empathy can solve this problem. Lemontree connects families in need to the free food in their backyard through a tech-enabled food helpline, personalized food access dashboards, and an online resource directory.
About This Cause
This morning, millions of Americans woke up and went to work with empty stomachs. Kids sat in class, unable to focus. Despite the fact there are more food pantries in the US than McDonald’s, food insecurity isn’t getting better–it’s getting worse. Last year, 44 million of our neighbors went to bed hungry–a 31% jump from the previous year, and the biggest increase since 2008. It makes no sense that humans go hungry while free food is around the corner. Lemontree connects our neighbors to these crucial resources and serves them with warmth & hospitality. We’re on a mission to make sure all our neighbors can eat, but also to revitalize an emergency food system that hasn’t changed much since its inception. Our proprietary data, tech-based solutions, and focus on scale are the first steps to get there.
