Mission Statement
It is our mission to teach young scholars' athletes the importance of education, health, fitness, and the basic skills of sports in an atmosphere that promotes positive self-esteem. Participants will exude good sportsmanship, discipline, as well as leadership and dedication that will follow them through life. This grant request is in "High Need" for the citizens and youth we serve in our area.
About This Cause
There are many gaps and needs in the community Cannonball Youth Club serves. Our children are raised in single parent households with mothers that are missing a male figure role model in the children's life. These single mothers also work daily and countless hours trying to provide for their children which leaves lots of extra time where the minor is not supervised by an adult in many cases. That's where Cannonball Youth Club comes in as a huge NEED and fills the GAP of unsupervised freedom. For example, in our community we had practice Monday - Friday and this one particular day on a Wednesday, we had to cancel practice due to weather. This was the same day, sadly a minor that was in the program was shot and killed due to gun violence around the time where he would have been in practice if we had not cancelled. This really shows how much our program is needed in the district 9 community that we serve.
